Do you have a niche in your home that you aren't quite sure what to do with? If you are like me, I've tried for years to find a good use for the space - I've even covered it up but then thought it was a waste of good storage space. Read on to see how an article from Sawdust 2 Stitches sparked an idea that finally led me to covering the niche, but in a way that allowed me to keep the storage.Read More
Are you thinking about painting your cabinets but not sure where to start? After 15 years of painting cabinets I've come up with my own process. It may not be the way others recommend, but it works for me - and hopefully it will work for you.Read More
It's here!!! Finally after 5 years of trying to figure out what I wanted, stressing about paint, backsplashes, cabinet color and who knows what else, I finally figured out what I wanted.
For those who have been following for a bit, you probably have the before photos etched pretty firmly in your brain. For those who are new, let me share what the kitchen looked like when we bought it.
Spring has sprung and I'm loving it! With the mild days I have found myself outside more and more. I've been craving color and what better way to add color than with a planter? And what better planter than a Versailles planter!Read More
Creating a statement piece in a room is a great way to bring "wow" into a space. For my kitchen, I wanted the range hood to be the focal point. Once a builder grade set of cabinets, no the range is a bronze beauty - thanks to paint and inexpensive tacks.Read More
Do you ever have a project that just hangs over you like a gray cloud? For me it's been the cabinet space over the range. When we bought the house there was a microwave over the range:
Now I don't know about you, but when I'm cooking, the last thing I want is a microwave buzzing next to my head. So what did I do? I took it down and converted the drawers in the island to shelves (more on that project later) that would store the microwave. What I was left with was this:Read More
One of the things I've been struggling with during the bathroom remodel is what to do with the windows. They are frosted privacy windows, but I noticed the other day that you can see outlines really well - which means when I'm taking a bath the neighbor could get an eye full! Yikes! After more time on Pinterest than I want to admit I decided tie up shades or london shades were the best option. They give the feel I want without being too stuffy. I looked at tons of sites selling both tie up shades and london shades and could not find anything that I like. So I decided to get creative.Read More
With the cooler temperatures rolling in I've been noticing a lot of drafts coming in around the windows. After weeks of freezing floors I decided to do something about it. I headed to the hardware store to pick up weatherstrip and caulk and while there I stumbled across these nifty little things.
Intrigued, I grabbed them off the shelf and started reading the package. Apparently, these seals are placed around the outlet and stop the outside air from coming in (as shown on the front of the package). A worker saw me reading the package and chimed in telling me these were an absolute must. They were "magic" and would completely change the temperature of my house. After that glowing review how could I not try them? I grabbed a couple of packs and decided what the heck - I'll give them a try. When I got home I got to work taking off the outlet plates so I could give the seals a try.Read More
