2014 - The year of the master bedroom

2013 isn't even officially over and I'm planning ahead for 2014. So, what's on the docket for 2014? I've decided to make 2014 the year of the master bedroom. You see, my master bedroom is perhaps the most undone room in the whole house. The master bathroom is 99% finished and is gorgeous (I promise there will be a big reveal of that project in the next few weeks). You would think that with such an amazing bathroom the bedroom attached would be awesome. You would think. How bad it is? Let me show you....

Terrible, huh? I bought the headboard last year and a couple of tea tables to use as nightstands (remember these?):

I guess I should say that I actually did a bit of work when we bought the house. Here is the room when we bought it:

What you can't see is that on the opposite wall there was a huge hole where (apparently) an aquarium once was. On either side, there were shelves but they were incredibly uneven. I wish I had a pic to show you because they were bad!

The first thing we did was pull the tile out and put in carpet. Then we bought a fireplace and placed it in the hole where the aquarium went. We had the shelves sheetrocked and then I tiled. And yes, that tile is going away. My husband wanted a modern house and I tried to embrace it, but went back to my old traditional roots.

So what's my inspiration? Well.... while I was in Europe the last couple of summers there was one thing I kept finding myself drawn to - the beautiful picture frame mouldings (the reason I redid the stairs). It wasn't until I got to Prague that I found exactly what I wanted. This is our room at the Four Seasons Prague:

I'm not sure why, put I fell madly in love with the use of trim in this room. My husband says it looks like an old lady's house but he has said that the bedroom is mine to so what I wish. Over the next few months I plan to recreate this look. I'm so excited to take this one on!
