When Good Projects Go Bad

When Good Projects Go Bad

It's been FOREVER since I've had a DIY post and I'm so sad that my first one back is a fail. As in major fail. Let's take a walk down memory lane.

After doing the kitchen and dining room I decided to wrap one other little project - the powder bath. It's a really ugly little space. It has great floors (extra from my bath remodel) but other than that, it's terrible.

The Dining Room Reveal

The Dining Room Reveal

Wow. That's all I can say about the crazy amount of rain we have received in the Austin area in the last few weeks. Downtown Austin was even under water at certain points. Yesterday we had 3, yes 3, different tornado warnings in our small town. Luckily, nothing came from them but wow. Just wow.

Another thing that has been happening the last few weeks is the completion of the dining room. I started the remodel years ago, but just did a little here and there over the years. How did it look when we bought it?

Airing My Dirty Laundry (Room)

Airing My Dirty Laundry (Room)

It's a cold and rainy evening here in the Austin area which means it's the perfect night for finally writing a post on the laundry room. When you see all of the pics, you will see why I've waited for so long. One, because there were a lot of pics of edit and two, because I don't love the quality of the photos. It was really, really hard to photograph this space because of the way it was set up. But I did and hope you like it!

Reclaimed Entry Closet

Reclaimed Entry Closet

The last week (or so) I've been working on a super easy project - fixing up my entry way closet. It may not seem like a big project - and it wasn't - but it was time consuming. So why fix up your entry closet you ask? Because I'm tired of the daily "Where are your shoes? Where is your backpack?" as we are heading out the door for school. And, to be honest with you, it kind of became a place to put stuff. There was no thought behind what went in there. It was basically a catch-all for anything I couldn't find a place for. I had heard once that if your entry is cluttered, your home is cluttered. Who knows the logic behind it, but I decided to see if organizing it would make other things move smoothly (it was worth a try, right?)

Updated: Making Your Own Window Grids (Grilles, Mullions)

Updated: Making Your Own Window Grids (Grilles, Mullions)

Hi everyone! I wanted to list this as another dining room update, but I know most people are wanting to know about the window grids, grilles, mullions - whatever you call them. This project is the result of a little OCD and a lot of "there still is something missing in the dining room." Luckily, the latter and the former came into perfect harmony yesterday when I had my ah ha moment. I realized that I wanted to do grids on the window. Every window on the front of the house (even the little windows) have grids. In contrast, every window on the back and side did not. At first I thought they went this route because they wanted to enjoy the view. I mean, the view is why we bought the house.

Dining Room Update

Dining Room Update

What's up everyone?!? You know me... the harder I'm working, the less I blog. Hey, it takes time to sit here and put all of this together - time I could spend with the kiddos or (gasp) cleaning the house! :-) So, first things first - lets talk dining room. Although the dining room isn't 100% complete, it is close enough that I thought I'd show you the other projects.

One of the things I wanted to do was frame out the windows so I could enjoy the beautiful views. I wanted really chunky moulding, so I had to do something about the stool with it's little bitty hang over. I opted to take it out and cut the lip off.

My Own Cozy Nook

My Own Cozy Nook

Believe it or not, for the last two weeks I've been working on one section of the bedroom. One 10 foot X 2 foot area - the window bench! Just a reminder of how it looked when we bought the house (from the listing):

One of the first things I did was remove the maroon blinds and recover my existing shades with No Sew Roman Shades. So we were stuck here for a bit:

The Bathroom Reveal (Finally!)

The Bathroom Reveal (Finally!)

You want to know something funny? The whole reason I began this blog was because of my bathroom - a bathroom I have yet to reveal. I'm a terrible blogger. Even though I've technically been blogging since last February, the truth is I've only actually been blogging about 4 or 5 months. I was really, really busy finishing up school. But back to the bathroom. There wasn't much I hated about our house. I disliked plenty but only hated two things. First and foremost, I hated our master bathroom. The gentleman we bought the house from remodeled it in an attempt to sell the house. Supposedly, he invested around $10,000 redoing it. How did it look? Check it out...

$50 and a trip to Ikea

$50 and a trip to Ikea

** Sorry for the small pics. I thought I would save them down for quicker loading but saved a little too small. A few months ago I posted a mood board for my son's big boy room. I started working on it the day I posted the mood board and just finished it YESTERDAY! You would think that for as long as it took I would have done a ton to it. Nope. It's just been really, really busy around here.
