The Dining Room Reveal

Wow. That's all I can say about the crazy amount of rain we have received in the Austin area in the last few weeks. Downtown Austin was even under water at certain points. Yesterday we had 3, yes 3, different tornado warnings in our small town. Luckily, nothing came from them but wow. Just wow.

Another thing that has been happening the last few weeks is the completion of the dining room. I started the remodel years ago, but just did a little here and there over the years. How did it look when we bought it?

The Dining Room Update: Fake It Until You Make It

As y'all know, I've been working on wrapping the dining room. One of the things I really wanted to do was build a new dining room table. Unfortunately, after hurting my toe, that went by the wayside. Will I build a table? Maybe. Truth be told, I'm really digging my temporary fix and may just leave it. So what was the temporary fix? Faux wood grain!

The Dining Room Update: Cane Chair Redo

A funny thing happened last December. I was this close to finishing my dining room and bam! I changed directions and started working on the kitchen. I had a good reason. The island is between the kitchen and dining room and until it was finished, the whole space was undone. So, I switched gears and knocked out my kitchen. After all the dust settled, I decided it was time to finally finish the dining room. Since there were a few steps in this process, I decided to break it up into segments (so I don't overload you). One of those steps was new seating.

Ahhhhh wallpaper. For the last few years it's been threatening to make a comeback (again). Seen in design firms and high-end homes for years, wallpaper is making its way into the mainstream design world. With great designs and easy-to-remove options wallpaper is a win for everyone. As for me, I've taken the wallpaper plunge before and now that I am working on my powder bath, I've spent countless hours looking for the perfect paper. Along the way, I have found wallpapers that absolutely made a room. I saw hundreds of papers in all colors, shapes and style and am sharing my top 13 times wallpaper killed it.

One Week Late and 8 Feet Short - One Room Challenge

Guess what? It's week 5 of the One Room Challenge!!!! If you aren't familiar with the challenge, Calling It Home hosts a 6 week challenge where bloggers and designers redo one room (You can check out more here). When I decided to participate I thought, man 6 weeks to do one room (I chose my office) that's nothing. I can probably wrap that one in a couple of weeks. I was wrong. Truthfully the injury had everything to do with the delays but still!

Good morning everyone! I know I didn't announce it (because I'm not a big birthday person) but yesterday was my 38th birthday. 38 years. If you would have told me at I would be here at 38, I wouldn't have believed you. You see, my dad died of leukemia when he was 38. My ex-husband's mom died of cancer at 38. One of my best friend's husband has Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer - and he is 38.
